The new, state-of-the-art Fayetteville Elementary School was completed within an aggressive 12-month schedule. Situated on the 13-acre site of the previous school building, the new two-story facility will hold 600 students. This prototype-design school contains four kindergarten, 20 standard, four special education, and ten small group instruction classrooms, a music room and an art room. The centrally located library contains sate-of-the-art computer stations and a reading area. The two adjacent computer labs are located across from the multi-purpose gymnasium containing auditorium seating and an adjoining cafeteria, which functions as a performing arts stage.

The tight construction schedule necessitated the use of precast concrete hollowcore plank as the floor framing for the second level because it could be produced off-site and erected very quickly. In addition, it provided maximum loading capacity, and fit right in with the architect's Smart School Design criteria. A Smart School Design embraces the qualities of sustainable, high-performance design and is fiscally responsible. The designer knows that sustainable design is important, environmentally responsible, and that using renewable solutions does not increase the cost of construction. They also know what designs and materials provide a reasonable life-cycle payback. Precast concrete easily qualifies as a Smart School Design product.
