Lincoln University opened a 127,000 square foot, 4-story, 400 bed dormitory as part of a plan to expand student enrollment. The new facility is a welcome addition to the 350 acre campus and highlighted their 150th anniversary as America’s first historically black university.

The residence hall was strategically designed with two wings that could be constructed in phases and positioned to create a light-filled outdoor courtyard for group activities. Completed in March, 2006, each unit contains five single bedrooms, two bathrooms and a common living space with kitchen. Oldcastle Precast Building Systems cast the exterior panels at the same time as the hollowcore plank, interior walls, beams and columns. This allowed construction to progress through the winter months, eliminating the cost of expensive winterization of other exterior constructed materials. The cross wall design lends itself to a quiet space, perfect for this student housing application.
